Padmashri Kapil Dev Prasad, who gave recognition to Bawan Booti art at the international level, passed away. Kapil Prasad, resident of Basavan Bigha, Nalanda, was suffering from heart disease for 71 years. He breathed his last in a private hospital in Patna. Hearing the news of his demise, there was a wave of mourning not only in Nalanda but in entire Bihar. The last rites of Kapil Dev Prasad will be performed at Triveni Ghat in Fatuha, Patna. Kapil Dev Prasad was born on 5 August 1955. Kapil Dev Prasad had learned the skill of Bawan Booti art from his grandfather and father.

Last year the President honored

Gave recognition to this art in the country and abroad. Kapil Dev Prasad was awarded the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award, by President Draupadi Murmu in April 2023 for stitching 52 identical bootis or motifs by hand on cotton or tasar cloth. Here, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences on the demise of Padmashri Kapildev Prasad. The Chief Minister has said that Padmashree Kapildev Prasad ji was awarded Padmashree for Bawan Booti Kala in the year 2023. Bawan Booti is basically a kind of weaving art. He was a resident of Basavan Bigha village of Nalanda district. His demise has caused an irreparable loss in the field of Bawan Buti art.
